Report: Before heading to Maine for a wedding, we stopped at Cape Cod for a week of tossing plugs from the surf. But his does impact the Jersey angler.
Overall, the bay fishing was dead except for the folks trolling and jigging off Herring Cove.
At Head of the Meadows beach in Truro, the 8-12 pound blues came into the surf as clock work and stayed for 1.5 hours each chasing peanut bunker and butterfish right up onto the beach. The beach was littered with these bait fish or the sea gulls.
All that was necessary was to toss a small popper 10-15 feet outside of the wave curve and hang on...another blue would belt the lure, One angler was fighting a bluefish when one of the local seals grabbed the bluefish at the angler's feet and headed for Spain. Naturally, the angler's reel was spool.
The run of bass, blues, and baitfish has NOT started on Cape Cod so it may be a few more weeks before we see the migration.
Incidentally, the fall colors in Maine and Mass are outstanding. The oaks haven't changed color but the maple trees and various other trees have brilliant colors. It's worth the trip.
