Report:
Started at Sandy Hook, bayside. Outgoing tide running, but too strong. Metal went untouched. Switched to a 1/2oz jighead w/ a chartruesse Gulp curly tail. Caught 13 fish, all of the same species, on this lure. What is the species? Hint: bluefish, stripers, weakfish, and fluke were absent. If this were a textbook, the answer would be in the back of the book. In this case, the answer will be given as a remark to this post.
Moved to the spot in Western Sandy Hook Bay. After casting for a while, a bluefish hit a popper, but apparently swallowed it, frayed the leader, and opened the snap. The fish was lost on a jump. Re-rigging w/ a Gator spoon, the next fish made a strong 1st run but did not jump, at all, even when walked a long way to the beach. Why no jump from that bluefish? Because it was not a bluefish; a 26" striper, tagged and released. Later, 4 more bluefish hooked, 3 landed, all released.
