Report:
Fished solo last evening. We started off fishing opposite of the Perth Amboy Marina to give us some protection for the east wind. I started off using a 1 ounce white Spro tipped with a 4" chartreuse GULP swimming minnow and a short bait strip. Above that I had a standout hook tipped with a 3" GULP new penny shrimp. Nothing for me on the first drift. On the second I landed 3 fluke, 1 of which was a keeper. Third drift I added another 3 short fluke to my total. The fluke were feeding very aggressively. 5 out of the 6 fluke I caught here came off the Spro, includeing the keeper.
Moved out to fish the channel edges of the Triangle. Action was slower here. I switched to a 2 ounce Spro with a trailer since the drift was too fast for the lighter bucktail. I caught another short and 2 sea robins. Before the night was over I switched to dragging bait which yielded another short fluke and a sea robin.
Only 5 keepers on the boat last night with probably close to 50 shorts. No one had more than 1 keeper. Pool winner was about 20"s.
