Report: First fluke trip of the year. Started out fishing back of Raritan Bay with last of the outging tide. Made a couple of drifts on Channel edge near buoy #2. Caught one postage stamp fluke. Made move to the Lemon creek area of SI where a couple of Party boats were fishing. Nothing. Headed to Buoy 1 of Keport. Caught two small fluke and a couple of giant sea robins. Made decision to fish on the outside. Made a stop by the SP buoy but caught only two large skates. Made a stop on the Sandy Hook Reef. Caught a bunch of 16' - 17" Fluke and one legal sea bass. Proceeded to Shewsbury Rock area where the week before my fishing buddie, Bill had limited out. Located a school of Fluke but unfornately not many keepers. Majority of fish were 17' - 17 1/2". All fish were fat & heathly. Final total for three guys was 40 Fluke but only three keepers (19", 21" and 24"). Two of the keepers came on 4oz White jig dressed with a Gulp white 6" grub and a strip of squid. The other keeper came on fish finder bait rig with a squid / smelt combo with a 4" Chartruse Gulp swimming minnow. Great day to be on the water.
