Report:
We fished the area around the Navy Pier early. The outgoing tide and the wind pushed us on a good drift for awhile and we did fairly well and then it quit. Most of the Atlantic Highlands party boats were in the area and then a few moved to the top of the Reach on the green side but on the flats. Everyone was looking for the ideal drift. We tried Chapel Hill near #6 and only caught two shorts. The area around the double needles held some fish but again, the current was roaring. Down the beach, a little south of the nude beach, was productive for a few drifts but the current change and the approaching storms had us sliding too much and not drifting over the same bottom in the same way. For us, the bite shut down. There were no party boats down the beach. In all, the three of us caught over 60 fish of all sizes but we only could put eight in the cooler. The fish, today, seemed to like the squid strips the best. I did pretty well on just peanut bunkers on a plain hook with no skirt. I'm sure spearing will work well in the bay because the fluke were spitting them up.
