Report:
Was at Fripp Island for the week on our annual family summer vacation. Missed a great tailing tide on 7/26 as I was still unpacking. Caught and released two reds tailing in the grass on the fly on 7/27. Used a spoon fly - almost like cheating. Saw about 35 reds, more than I have ever seen on a tailing tide before. On 7/28 the tide was less high and only saw about 15 redfish while wading in the grass flats. The wind came up and the fish would only put their tails up momentarily and were hard to spot. On 7/29 and 7/30 fished some sand/mud flats on the early rising tide. Caught and released one red on the fly the first day. On the second day I was in my favorite spot fishing with a flyrod. Another boat came in beside me and threw out cut bait. They were so close that I could have cast to the other boat with spinning gear. They quickly caught 4 nice reds and stuck them in the cooler. I'm glad they caught fish but it's sad to see such magnificent fish end up in the cooler. Drove my rig back to NC on 8/1. Can't wait to come back next year for more great fishing.
