Report:
The absolutely perfect weather brought with it the most absolutely imperfect fishing conditions. The bluebird skies and the fleet of boats were two of the reasons why we did not do well. Add to that the absence of bait and it made for a day that had Ch 65 buzzing with truly tastless jokes and attempts at humor.
We managed to catch fat alberts and skippies with chunks and jigs but did not connect with anything larger. One boat which was no more than 50yds from us managed a Thresher and what looked like a keeper bluefin. Chunks went right down and nothing seemed to come through them except for the albies and the skippies. Those fish were all over the top from 10 miles out to 40. We spotted pilot whales early in the day but nothing was with them. We saw a big ocean sunfish (Mola) and heard of a great white eating fish as they were being reeled in. Some boats did catch bluefins, most did not. We did not.
The Jamaica was out there and they stopped on a big area of surface fish near the wreck that everyone knows by now. Those surface fish were skitterish and never really got into an eating mood. It was a nice day to be out on the water but that was about it. I guess it was the wrong day and the wrong time. We'll try again but I doubt if a day on the water could ever equal this one in flat seas and beautiful weather.
