Report:
Only 15 fares aboard today, so plenty of room. Headed due east out of the inlet to the area they had decent action on Saturday but after searching for a bit & nothing really at home we steamed south. I say we stopped off Ortley. First drift Jason jigged up a nice dinner-plate porgy. He then lost a nice blue at the boat. I missed my first strike but boated a nice bluefish soon after. At best the action around the boat was a slow pick. At this time I was using a tubeless A67 & Jason a tubeless A47. Second drift lasted close to 90 minutes, however I'd call the bite as a moderate pick now. Jason nailed 3 blues in short order on a 5 ounce Krocodile spoon. I added a second on an A47 and a 3rd on a 7 ounce Kroc (I eventually went to a 5 as Jason was having better action with it). We each hooked up and subsequently lost 3 fish on this drift. Third drift we caught a few more after that it was pretty much done as only 1 fish was boated on all subsequent drifts. We combined to put 10 bluefish in the cooler between #7-12. Only bass on the boat were a few sea bass. Best retrieve was a bounce or 2 off the bottom and a medium paced retrieve back to the boat. 9 out of 10 of our fish came within 3' of the bottom.
