Report:
I went back to the spot which Jim and I fished last week after stops at Sea Girt and Manasquan. Those two spots held bass on Sunday but not today. The predicted NE wind was already howling and the seas were very rough. Fortunately, the tide was out. I continued south of Pt. Pleasant and found that I had just missed the early bite at a popular spot. My next stop at where I usually fish was pretty empty. I even got a parking spot near the beach. Once I got settled I realized that I was missing my heavy lures and would have to adjust my tactics. By casting my AVA 17 with a green tail into the wind and quartering the outflow, I was able to keep the lure in the zone. Eight bass later, the bite ended as the tide rose too much and seemed to turn things off. My heavier jigs might have helped as I did see one guy who was able to catch a few more bass with an AVA 47. The surf was getting dangerous if you didn't watch your step. The undertow was incredible. Those who showed up early did better than I did and the stripers were spread out and not concentrated.
