Report:
I tried the Ocean County surf this afternoon, without any intel and should have known better when I pulled up to my favorite spot and was able to park right next to the access. I should have made a few calls before I decided to fish. Few guys were fishing and there was a good reason why. The water was dirty after several days of wind and there were no fish hungry enough to bite. There were no birds or any visible signs of activity. One fisherman, using clams, fished all day only to catch two short bass late in the P.M. No one was able to get out on the bar today, which has been the pattern lately. In speaking to a buddy who fished from a boat in that area on the weekend, he told me that the water just off the bar was thirty feet deep. Those fish have been cruising this edge for weeks chasing the sandeels up onto the bar.

One word of caution about fishing the Ocean County area......if the access points are closed with caution tape, go somewhere else. The police have put up new signs prohibiting access to the dunes. Anyone climbing down from the access points onto the beach will be given a citation when they climb back up to get in their car. The dunes are a mess. They are even more damaged than they were a few years ago. None of the beach homes have any steps to get onto the beach since they were all undercut and washed away in the storm. Some industrious fishermen have been piling up sand next to the few steps that are intact just to be able to climb up.

What this predicted hard NW blow will do to the surf is anyone's guess unless NOAA is wrong again.
