Report:
Started at @ 10:45AM at the toll-gate area. Scattered fishermen were throwing lures, but nothing was being caught. Bumped into George, from Sea Bright, who told me that this area had action yesterday. Eventually I decided to drive N. North Beach had almost no cars in the parking lot, but South Beach, Area E had vehicles. Birdplay, heavy at times, beyond casting range. 2 PB, 1 from AH, and the other from Brooklyn. A number of fishermen wading out on the flats on low tide, but few bent rods. Eventually I got a 20" striper on a 007jig w/ black tail. The birdplay dropped to zero, and most fishermen left. The birdplay started again, but beyond casting range, just as before. I kept throwing metal, hoping that the fish woud move in, but it never happened up to 4PM. At this time, I moved a short distance S to Parking Area D, the Sea Gull's Nest. There were a few scattered lure throwers, but no birdplay. Choosing an area between the other fishermen, I started getting hits, and landed 4 stripers 17 to 18-1/2 inches. Metal, w/ green tail, did the trick.
We might be starting to see the December pattern. No bluefish on the beach, and most of the stripers are noticeably smaller than those caught in November.
