Report:
Left GK harbor to find a small fleet a short distance outside the inlet. They semed to be drifting for fluke, so we tried that also. Using bucktails tipped w/ gulp, gulp on a trailer hook, or a teaser fly, we managed to land @15 in about an hour, or so. None were NY keepers, w/ the largest at 19". Some radio intel said that keeper fluke were being caught off Keansburg, and we had some expert (Cliff) advice that the 11A buoy off Keansburg would be a good spot. Leaving fluke to find bigger fluke, we had only one fish on at the 11A, and that was probably a bluefish. However as we arrived at the 11A, we saw the Flamingo III leaving the area and headiung W. With no further fluke action,we decided it was time to try bluefishing, and the afore-mentioned PB was found off Keyport. The gaff was being used on the PB, and my first blue, taken on as 1oz Crippled-Herring spoon, went a surprising 11# on the Bocca-grip scale. Before the action subsided, we managed perhaps 10 hookups between the 2 of us, landing about half of that. The fish mostly ranged 3# to 6#. Birdplay was zero, and surface swirls were also zero. Thank you Flamingo III for finding these fish based 100% on readings.
