Report:
Nice crowd for a Sunday later afternoon/early evening. Maybe 24 +/-.
Started off fishing the channels edges of the Triangle. The last of the outgoing tide coupled with a brisk west wind made for a drift faster than I prefer. I started off with a 1.5 ounce glow Spro tipped with a 4" GULP chartruse swimming minnow with a standout hook above it tipped with a 3" GULP new penny shrimp (used this rig all night. Jason started dragging bait and later switched to bucktailing. First fish that came aboard was a keeper but over all it was a slow pick. I had very few bites while bucktailing as did others that were.
Moved to the west by the #53 buoy but by now it was slack tide and with the tide changing the wind was dying. No drift here and we didn't stay long.
Headed east and made our next drift bu the #25 can. Took a few minutes to starting moving but once we did we started getting bites. I finally put some fish in the boat, the first 2 were shorts but then I landed a keeper, We hit the fish in patches, nothing for a few minutes than 10-12 would come up. Made a pretty long drift here before having to move due to a tanker. Headed further east and had the same type of action. I added another keeper to the cooler. Jason was banging out 16-17" fluke then had a double header of cocktail bluefish. I must of ended the trip with 12-15 fish. I dropped 3 that all felt like they had some weight (or at least being 'keeper' size). As was the case Wednesday night, the keeper ratio was very low although there was steady action. Only 7 keepers came made the trip back to the dock. I was tied for high hook with 2, so allot of people went home with empty coolers. Pool winner was 19.5"s.
