Water Temperature: . Water Clarity: Good Seas: Calm Weather: Mostly sunny with variable winds. Slight increase in cloud cover by mid morning with what looked to be a significant rain storm over the coast by mid morning into early afternoon. We did have some light rain by the end of the trip with wind out of the west 10-15. Fishing_for: Fluke Boat: Gambler captain: Bob Bogan
Report:
Jason & I decided for a change of scenery, so we hit the Gambler for their morning trip. Arrived about 90 minutes early so we could use light spinning tackle and bounce small bucktails off the bow of the boat while it was still in the slip. I managed 3 and Jason 1.
Once the dock lines were thrown off and we broke the inlet we steamed east & slightly to the north to the Sea Girt reef. Conditions were such that we were able to use a 4 ounce Spro but by the third drift we need 6 ounces. Action was slow throughout the trip. Perhaps only 5 or 6 keeper fluke and 15 or so keeper sea bass for the entire trip. Twice the number shorts for both species.
I stuck with a Spro/teaser rig and Jason switched to pulling bait after the 4th drift. I only had 1 short fluke (although I did have a nice pickup with what felt like a decent fluke but it was gone almost as quick as it bit). Jason had 2 short fluke a sea robin & a skate.
