Report:
A good NW wind sent us to the Reach with the outgoing tide. We scored two keepers and then it went cold. A move to Chapel Hill put us into the fish big time with the outgoing and now, a northerly breeze. After sorting through many shorts, Marty scored with a great 7.2# fish which ate a squid strip. We only wound up with four keepers for the three of us but the overall numbers were close to 100.
The wind kept dancing around going all the way around to SE by the afternoon. The fishing slowed tremendously without the drift that we had earlier. I wound up casting a 1oz Spro with a Gulp mullet to catch fish on just about every cast during the slack. Later in the day, as the drift returned, we continued to catch fish on Flynn's Knoll.
The big fish's stomach was empty but there was lots of bait reading on the machine especially in the channel. The smaller fish were spitting up small crabs. The fish hit squid strips early on and also gulped the Gulp readily. Later they only wanted killies.
Nice day. Lots of fish. It will take a lot to get these fish to move out. We recreational fishermen will be leaving a lot of fish behind when the season closes in a couple of weeks. It's a shame.
