Report:
Jason & I joined Capt. Frank, his daughter & boyfriend John as well as Capt. Jerry & his daughter Melissa for a family day of bottom fishing. Since this was a 'fun' trip we all had breakfast at Capt. Frank's house (located right across from the marina). Pulled out of the slip @ 8:30 and steamed towards the Sandy Hook Reef.
Once the anchor was set we dropped our lines and had immediate action. It was pretty much lock & load..drop & reel fishing with clam baits. Some nice sea bass came up but it there allot more porgies. Capt. Frank started with a green crabs and had a nice #5 blackfish right away but nothing afterward. Stayed on this spot for a good 3+ hours having steady action throughout. Pulled many #2+ porgies up with the biggest going over 3. Also some nice knucklehead sea bass to #3.5 came up. Had a brief period where we had some #4-5 pound bluefish caught but they were not a real problem today. Jason also added a 18.5 inch fluke to the catch.
Once the tide turned to outgoing the bite slowed but was still steady. Made 2 other drops with life on both.
Got back to the slip @ 3:30. Final tally was @ 85 porgies to #3, 40 sea bass to #3.5, 3 blackfish to #5, 3 fluke with the biggest at 18.5"s and 2 bluefish in the #4-5 class (with several bite offs). Lost count of the number of shorts we caught.
