Report:
We tried some of the tried and true spots that have produced for us in the past but they didn't produce. The reef is very expansive so we went prospecting on some of the numbers we had stored but had never tried. The drift was at one point,.01, barely moving. Needless to say, the fluke were not chewing, so we were able to stay over the various pieces without anchoring. The seabass were right on the pieces and would devour our clam baits with abandon. As the day went on, the wind picked up and we never had the same drift twice. As the drift picked up, so did the fluke bite but everything was small. It was a great day on the water with lots of boats trying for those elusive end of summer flatties. A friend fished farther offshore and power drifted to catch over 100 fluke for his four man party only one of which was over 18". In our marina, I saw only three keepers on the cleaning station table. The ocean water was as clean as it gets but with an absence of the little tunny, bonito, and skipjacks that should be here.
