Report:
Our first stop was in the river this morning...nothing. Since the local flags were blowing northeast, we ventured out of the inlet to find 2-3 foot waves. Not my favorite but acceptable.
The north end of the Axel Carlson reef looked like the Spanish fleet had sailed into our waters. The VHF chatter had mostly short fluke with a sprinkling of legal fluke. No matter, we started at the northern end of the reef and began to boat both shorts and legal fluke including a quality 6 pound 8 ounce fluke on a hand scale. It took five ounces to hold bottom.
By the time we ended the trip at 12:30, we had enough legal fluke onboard for all our anglers to freeze and to have a Jersey fresh meal tonight. As for me, I think that I will take a quick shower after finishing cleaning up the gear.
Oh yes, I heard on boat asking for a gaff in that they had hooked a cobia. They found a boat with a gaff that they could borrow. Don't know the size of the Cobia. It was a fun day on the reef.
