Report: Our weekly family fishing trip included my son this time. He has really taken to deep water jigging and that prowess now includes bucktailing for fluke. I was put on notice to "get my skills up". Our general location was about 3 miles out from the inlet around some bottom structure. A small fleet of locals had already set up shop and we mingled with them. When the drift died out,we power drifted for awhile and then went back on the drift. During the lull, my wife dropped her killie/squid combo down and boated a nice six pounder. My mother-in-law also scored with a fat 23 incher followed by my son's 24 incher. He also boated four other keepers on either the 6 oz. bucktail or the 6" Gulp curly tail dropper. I was only able to box one keeper out of our 10 fish total. We tried several other spots but could only find shorts. Trash fish were almost non existent except for a couple of skates. The water was very clear and the farther north we went, the water changed to a pretty blue. We spotted a school of rays just under the surface and another boat from the marina spotted one group of bonita with some tuna chicks dipping over them. The fish soon disappeared. We had one of our best days for quality fish in a long time. The action was best with strip baits and except for my son, we all took most of our fish on the strips of squid. This is the second week in a row that my wife caught the pool fish and she does it with just a wink and a nod and a sheepish smile.
