Actually was not expecting that we'd get out considering the light rain on the drive to the boat. Was pleasantly surprised to see there were close to 10 other anglers already onboard upon my arrival at the dock. I knew the bait (especially the clam) bite was slow and the report from the day trip was not encouraging as they only caught 1 short. We received some intel from a few other boats that they had caught some fish on clams off of Keansburg earlier in the day-so that's where we headed. After less than 10 minutes on anchor, the gentleman next to me was asleep at the switch and missed a nice run off. Not too long after, I had a hit and proceeded to deck a 27"er. After a quick picture, I rebaited and casted out. No sooner than I put the rod in the holder it doubled over and soon had a 29"er aboard. Looked as if we had something going but nothing materialized after that expect a pair of skates (including one for myself). Made a few wiggles. I got another 27 inch fish in addition to one other of the same size being boated. Made one last wiggle and marked a nice pile of fish. It didn't take long and we got a little something going. I was able to boat another keeper size bass of 31.5 inches sandwiched between missing another 3 bites. Two other keepers to 29 inches were caught as well as a half dozen shorts in the 26-27 inch class with probably 10-12 missed bites. I ended up being high Hook with 4 and took the pool. Best bite was in the dark.
