Was invited out for a few hours to get in the hot river bluefish bite. With the heavy rain on Friday and the subsequent run off the water was heavily stained yesterday and it effected the bite. A few tide changes cleared the water some today but it was still stained. As a result, we were unsure what to expect. Tried a few spots up river and around Treasure Island without some much as a boil. I started off throwing a Rapala X-Rap minnow plug, while my fishing partner threw a variety of lures. I finally had a boo close to the boat but failed to hook up. This was soon followed by my partner having his soft plastic shad bit in half (also failing to hook up). Not too long after I had a solid hook up and boated our first fish of the day-a #8er. My partner also landed his first on a plug. We made a wiggle down river and along a flat that was 3-4' of water. I was throwing the same plug, while my partner was throwing a topwater poppers. He was starting to get blow ups and almost every cast prompting me to do the same . We repeated the drift several times with enough action that we decided to anchor. It was the right move as for the next hour we both either had a blow up or hooked up on every cast. In short order, we each boated and released over a dozen bluefish each ranging from #6-14. Once the tide slowed the bite shut down completely. Back in the slip by 11:15.
