i'm building a fly rod, mainly to take on vacation with me to the keys/caribbean, but might occasionally use it in freshwater.
usually i use spinning tackle for snook, bonefish, and other typical flats/mangrove species. it's usually 20# power pro/10# fluro that kind of thing.
is a 6 or 7 wght enough, or do i need to go to an 8 or 9?
what about the reel? i have no idea how to buy a fly reel, but i want a nice one, and i wouldn't care to spend $100 - $150, but i can't afford a van staal...

Gene from GA says although the saltwater flyfishing board
has little new posts, if you go through some old posts ya might get some info. When ya see Ken Roy in his big blue letters, click him and email him, he will know.
I'm thinking an 8-9 is over kill, but I don't fly fish much.
