SUBJECT: # 40019: Mounting Riptide Trolling Motor

Submitted by windknot (74.197.157.4) from NORTH CAROLINA on 7/11/2008 6:30:00 AM

I am mounting a new bow mount Riptide trolling motor on my 22' Jones Brothers skiff. Where is the best location to mount the motor. The boat is flat bottomed and the bow is square. The boat is shaped very much like a large rectangle so I see no advantage to the motor being in the center of the bow -vs- on the right or left side of the bow. Does anyone have any experience on mounting locations?

Typically they are mounted on the left side. Be sure there is reinforcement under the bow where the mounting bolts will be. Plywood, polypropylene or something similar. Use fender washers at the nuts.

Do you have power up there? Use 6 gage wire from your deep cycle trolling motor batteries.

So many times I have seen motors mounted and when it is in the storage position or folded up laying on the deck, the head sticks out past the rub rail. Don't do that for obvious reasons.

    Good luck.
