Frenchy from MA says RIP old friend
Gowge was one of the plankowners here--in at the beggining of the surf fishing board back in the spring of--geez, when was it? 1997? 1998?
He was a man of uncommon gentility and grace. He always stayed above the fray in the sometimes heated discussions we had.
We had a nice group here at the time, as this was one of the first web sites dedicated entirely to surf fishing. In time, people left, heading to other sites with more of a regional flavor--New England, Cape Cod, Long Island, Joisey, DelMarVa, the OBX and so on. Some of us lurked on Gowger old Florida Surffishing site even though the fishing wasn't our bag. Just to listen to Gowge--his real first name was George and I never did find out how "Gowge" came about--talk about tweaking reels, and talking about the merits of various rods. He was a wealth of information. And even with his gentleman-like manner, I know he sat there often with a twinkle in his eye watching our antics.
It's been many years since he's been a presence here, but his wisdom is only a search away.
Tight lines, George.
