SUBJECT: # 3570: Power Pro Line--Comments???

Submitted by John D. (208.208.47.100) from NEW JERSEY on 4/6/1999 3:56:00 PM

I currently use a 6'6" St. Croix Premier with a Calcutta 400s spooled with 20 lb Ande for chunking stripers. I have heard great reviews of the Power Pro line and was thinking of using it, especially after having the Dartanium Drag installed in my Calcutta. What are the negatives of this line? Can it break my rod if I strike too hard on a bass?

Thanks in advance,

John D.

Yuch! Just my .02, but I hate that stuff, it is very rough to work with, breaks when you get an over run on the conventional reels, and just don't seem right. Actually, for shallow water bait fishing, I would stick with the mono. Only if you were fishing extreme depths would the braid ave any positive effect while bait fishing. In close, the stretch of the mono is your friend...and the braids drag in the water more than mono, so anchored in a steaming current would not be the best spot to anchor a braid to the bottom with a chunk on it. Fishing lures, I would tell you different, but chunking...stick to the mono.
