With the cost of terminal tackle being so prohibitive these days, cutting costs has become pretty important if you want to keep fishing (and pay the bills at the same time). I thought it was time to share a method that has worked for me for many years.
The idea came to me while gathering minnows in a number of minnow traps I had set out. It's really great to get free bait. What about a lure trap? Sounds silly, doesn't it. But it works!
First you have to find a good area like the end of a popular jetty or frequently fished channel. Like any other bait trapping method, the right place is half the battle. Now that you've got the right place, a few stainless steel shopping carts are all you need. Just take them out in your John boat and deposit them in the most likely casting locations. Make sure they anchor into the mud real well. Go back and check these once a week and you'll have all kinds of jigs, spoons, sinkers, hooks, plugs, leaders etc. caught in your trap. Make sure the trap is at least 5 feet below the water line even at low tide. Low water allows your catch to escape, especially if the low tide is BELOW the level of your trap.
You have to change your trap locations regularly since your harvest will decrease rapidly after the first week. Another advantage of well-placed lure traps is that you'll find fewer people fishing your rock. Try it!

It's dead wrong. My feeling is we're all brothers and I can't condone plotting to steal a buddy's terminal tackle. Why don't you just rifle our tackle boxes while we're not looking? Or yank my rod out of the spike and say a fish took it? Or root around in the bed of our truck while we're inside eating breakfast?

Thank you Papa Bull for making my morning. I haven't laughed like that in a while. I don't know which is funnier, your story or the fact that some actually believed you. For someone who wasn't cyber fishing you did quite fine. Good Job. ROTFLMAO!!!!!

That was a good one Papa. Lifted my spirits today, no doubt. Billybob may be on the right track thinking RW. That man should be published one day.
