SUBJECT: # 6811: Knots

Submitted by EDinPA (205.188.197.168) from PENNSYLVANIA on 1/11/2000 9:44:00 AM

What knot do you guys recomend for tying lures to your line? And does anybody use a snap/swivel to make changing lures quicker? Thanks in advance. ED

There's a wide range of knots you can use depending on the line weight, the lure, the action, using a leader or not, etc. Personally, I use an improved clinch knot most of the time. Sometimes I'll also use a Palmer or Uni knot too.

If you use a snap swivel, use a black finished swicel and snap. Duo-lock and cross-lock styles are popular and effective. The other style (with the small metal plate - I forget the name) bends and opens too easily. I've lost too many good fish to them. Also keep the hardware minimal as to reduce the chance of spooking the fish, but not so small it's the weak link in your setup.

Palomar is my knot of choice for lures. Easy to tie and near 100% strength. Only drawback is if lure is real big (e.g., Bomber), it is tricky to pass through the loop. Agree with ArtsNFlies advice on swivels
