SUBJECT: # 7300: Add An INEXPENSIVE ($2) Graphite Trigger on Your Surf Rod!

Submitted by gowge from FLORIDA on 4/23/2000 1:29:00 PM

I tried this and found it works just fine!

*************************************************

I have been looking for an easy way to add a trigger to plain reel seats for some time. I found that Fuji makes a "Glue In Place" style graphite trigger for one of their "Bass Size" (15.2mm) spinning reel seats, and it might be adapted to any DOWNLOCK style reel seats. This is the style reel seat that comes on the inexpensive Daiwa Sealine Surf 'Casting Model' surf rods, and others. The part (#IPS16TR) is designed to work with the Fuji Reel Seat, part #IPS16B, where it's intended to be glued in place either before or after the seat is installed on the rod blank... With just a little bit of sanding and fitting, perhaps you can adapt it to your rod too.

Price is only $2.03ea. - a whole lot less than the clamp style triggers, and a lot better, (IMHO) if it works for you. ;))

I received mine in the mail yesterday (Saturday), and after about 5 minutes of shaping it with a little sanding drum on a dremmel tool, I glued it on a Daiwa Sealine X Surf Rod (Casting Model) with the downlock style reel seat. IT WORKS! There's at least one Daiwa Sealine X Surf Rod now, with a trigger reel seat. Trial fit the part so you are pleased with the way it fits your reel seat, and make sure it's glued down at the rear of the seat near the grip, just in front of the rear "hood"... If you decide to strip a spinning rod and reline it with casting guides, you too can add this trigger, as most "large" spinning rods will come with a downlock reel seat too... (The screw is at at the top.)

Perhaps other suppliers can also get this piece for you.

GOOD LUCK!

I may give this trigger a try. I've got a Loomis 1266C (off the rack), with a Mag Elite. Love this setup but I do miss having a trigger on the rod. Just makes it a lot easier to balance the reel on top and handle the rod in some situations(IMHO). That's the one thing I wished the rod had...sounds easy to attach and the price is right! Thanks for the tip.
