I had the same experience for four days this past week at Island Beach State Park, about 40 miles south of you, and that experience was shared by all of the fishermen there. I got one 12" blue by casting metal into a school under a flock of terns about 50 yards offshore. Also saw one legal fluke taken and heard of another. The rest of the time I either fed the crabs (a clam lasted about 5 minutes) or sat enjoying the sun (and flies). Several skindivers swimming around the jetty protecting the Barnegat inlet saw plenty of big stripers deep at the end of the jetty, but there seems to be so much bunker available they're pretty well fed, and taking one is a long shot of having your clam or bunker chunk there when one decides he's hungry. The guys fishing at night did a little better, but it was slow even then. Gene Gauss
