SUBJECT: # 9158: New Lamiglass surf rod

Submitted by John (199.196.144.17) from VIRGINIA on 7/7/04 11:55:00 AM

Anyone checked out the new Lami Surf King rods? What do you think? How do they compare with the Tica UEHA rods?

At only $95, the new Lami looks like a great rod (on paper). 11', 3-8 oz, 17-40#. Only thing is, nobody around me sells them, so I haven't been able to look at it in person. I know I can always return it if I don't like it, but that's a big hassle.

Thanks!

after finally finding my ideal surf rod height (9ft) i purchased the Tica UEHA for only $65 and loved it. then i stumbled on a 9ft okuma solaris at a closing sale at a tackle shop an hour away from me that was just trying to move the final pieces of product and i like that one even better. i just got back from a week of fishing marthas vineyard and, after using and landing fish on both, i really like the okuma better. that, coupled with an epixor reel that nicely holds 320 yds of 20# test, i was outcasting and having far fewer back problems after a full night of fishing with my buddy with his $250 custom lami rod and $150 shimano baitrunner. if u feel the need to spend tons of money on a combo, go ahead, but i really, really recommend the solaris.

does the solaris have SS bearings or plain steel? the okuma reels seem well built for the price but if you are going to use them for extended beach trips be sure to get there SS model.I have a buddy who had a pair(can't say exact model) but both reels froze up on him.he is rough on equipment.
