SUBJECT: # 9160: Daytona vs. Outer Banks beaches??

Hello again, one last question: I am looking at 2 vacations next year, one to Daytona/Ponce and one "Up North". I've been to Virginia Beach a few times and Daytona a few times. I've noticed Virginia Beach, which is a n artificial beach, has much more slope and almost no bar/trough structure (presumably in part due to being an artificial beach). By contrast, Daytona is almost ridiculously flat (to me) but it seems to be a far better "fish" beach due to this, and also there is almost always pools of standing water just below the high tide line, which the kids can play in without getting hit by waves. They can dig sand fleas, catch small blue crabs, etc. in these slack pools.
Anybody who'd been to both Daytona and the Outer Banks care to compare the 2 beaches? Is the outer Banks as shallow as Daytona, or a steeper beach like VA Beach, or somewhere in between? We're from Wisconsin, so we don't get to the ocean very often and have to pick our destinations carefully :(
Any input anyone here may have would be greatly appreciated....if you would like to keep your opinion semi-private, you can always e-mail me at firstmatefluff@hotmail.com
Thanks! Mark

At high tide, OB beaches drop off and have a pretty strong current. Low tide is better and the kids will enjoy. The beaches on OB are less crowded and more family than VA beach. I just got back from Myrtle and that is also a great place for the family. Fishing isn't as productive as OB

ob. hands down for fishing. much more slope and many outer sand bars. can get pretty rough for small children. if you have 4wd you can pick the kind of beach you want to be on depending on the surf, fish the inlets and have calm water for the kids and still good fishing
