Submitted by knot enough (205.188.199.203) from NORTH CAROLINA on 10/15/2000 10:32:00 PM

Much better boat, and Hydrasport stands behind their products. Genmar (manufacturer of Wellcraft and Aquasport, among others) doesn't have a great rep in this area.

Although I'm not a OMC fan at all (Yamaha), I would pick Hydrasports. It is a much better built boat. You will find that after a couple of years the Wellcraft will have stress cracks. Plus the Hydrasports were designed better for fishing than the Wellcrafts.

I own a 230 walk around hydra-sport and love it. Rides dry, even in rough seas, handles like a much larger boat thanks to the bracket, and the construction is solid. Friend of mine has a 230 center which he took out of the Keys this summer. Went out to the Dry Tortugas and back( 160 mi each way) and said he has never had as good a ride. Great boat for the money. Good luck. DLM

I looked at every 21-25' walkaround cuddy I could find and narrowed it down to these two boats. I bought the Hydra-Sports. It is definately set up better to fish and is more boat all around. I like the bracket and all the room in the cockpit. The fact that we can overnight in bunks that are large enough to sleep in was also a large factor. We are nearing the end of our 2nd season and I still think it is a great boat. Pete

Someone finally spelled the name of the boat correctly! Sorry, I just can never understand why no one gets it right. Anyway, I've owned two Hydrosport boats, one 2000 DC and now a 2500 WA. Hydro-Sports has gone though many changes over the years. In my opinion, the older hulls, say pre-1992, are much stronger and more durable than the current production models. This is not to say, in the least bit, that the newer HydraSport hulls are flimsy, they just are no longer hand laid with the attention to detail that they were due to the mass production. In my opinion, if you can find a late 80's, early 90's Hydra-Sports, Mako, Grady etc. in good cond., it is a great buy. Good luck.

Agree with your statement. I had a Mako in 82' and it was built like a brick ......

That's the answer to your problem.
