Jack Hexter (199.174.240.189) from FLORIDA says Florida in April
April is one of the best fishing months in the Keys. Offshore, dolphin are starting to show up, sailfish have not yet completely departed, bottom fishing is good. Inshore, tarpon are arriving, snook should be on the bite as well as trout and redish. It's warmed up enough for bonefish on the flats and the trout should be in the pot holes.
For tarpon, especially on fly, on a flat, you may be too late to book a guide as they are usually booked months in advance, but give it a try. I'd call Capt Lee Baker at 305-664-2080. If he's booked, he'll be able to refer you to another of the better guides in Islamorada.
If you don't care how you catch the poon, a live mullet during a night trip under one of the bridges is almost a guarentee.

I'm a dedicated, hard core, billfisherman, who's
"first timing" out of Marathon in a 30 ft cc, fully rigged, next week. Looking for local info
and tips on locations, baits, tackle shops,
conditions, marina's etc. Thanks.
