SUBJECT: # 35180: Where to fish on the N.E, Coast this August??

Howdy... The wife wants to spend a week somewhere along the N.E. coast the first week of August. I'm all for it if we can find some place that isn't a packed tourist area. I'm guessing that Cape Cod & M.V. are completely over run by vacationers at that time.
Any suggestions on someplace I can find a few yards of coast that isn't a mob? What about Headboats or Charters?
My wife works for the airlines so I can fly in anywhere so I'm open to all areas of N.E. but, Boston, Bar Harbor & Bangor would be ideal as we could fly directly in. Any Head Boat info on these areas would be appreciated
Thanks.

Frenchy from NEW YORK says Cape Cod and north
August is usually "the doldrums" in a lot of the Northeast, but from Cape Cod north, you should be able to get into some fish. Some good head boats operate out of Plymouth (halfway between Boston and the Cape), Marshfield, Green Harbor, Glouster, the Portsmouth, NH area. I'm not too familiar with Maine. There are some charter Capts who post here from time to time, if they can't accomodate you, maybe they can give you a referral. Shore fishing for stripers, bluefish, mackerel and small pollock is also a possibility.

Capt Dave, North Shore Charters (198.28.128.11) from MASSACHUSETTS says North Shore of Boston
Brew, if you decide to stay in the Boston area, striper fishing that time of year is good. There are alot of head boats in the area that will take you out for ground fish. If your looking to charter a boat on your own, drop me a line and we'll see if we can work something out.

Jay_from_Bay (152.148.53.122) from MASSACHUSETTS says Fishin in August!
It's Tuna, Mahi-Mahi, white marlin, and shark time south of the
Vineyard during August. Take a trip to the dump and the canyon.
No crowd's 50 to 100 miles out....Just fish! Capt Dave is right
about the Stripers, but they are deeper and require wire line and slow trolling
to land them consistently. Night fishing that time of year is also great down the cape
off the deeper rips around the Islands.
