SUBJECT: # 35405: Shark attacks young boy

Submitted by J Soule from FLORIDA on 7/8/01 4:55:00 PM

Friday evening after the the sun set, but before the moon rose , a young boy was attacked by a Bull shark while swimming in the Gulf off Ft. Pickens ,in the Gulf Islands Nat'l Seashore. The boys uncle actually wrestled the shark (250# , 7'+ ) to shore and saved the boy . While he was being administered CPR by his aunt and a stranger, the boy's arm was removed from the shark's gullet and sent to the hospital. The boy had been bled almost dry and and was lucky to have survived this far , but the doctors not only saved his life (thanks to the CPR), but re-attached his harm!. the boy is clinging to life and there seems to be hope for success. Who among us who has wondered what we would do in life's worst circumstance could find the courage to race into the water and wrestle to the point of overpowering a thrashing monster to the shore while a young boy is enduring a horror of unimagineable reality?? The ones who attended him early prevented his death by using their training and their mettle. The doctors used their God given talents and their diligently honed skills to preserve his life and save his limb. ... But what a man this uncle must be.......John Soule
