SUBJECT: # 35542: Placement of Transducer

Submitted by Parks from SOUTH CAROLINA on 7/21/01 10:09:00 AM

Have read in several post that a few people place their transom mount transducer in the bottom of their boat sitting flat. Get a lot of white water with my Sitex CVS-106 and was wondering if it would read the bottom mounted like that. Do I have to do anything special to mount it this way or what. Anyone out there have theirs mounted this way and if so, how does it read the bottom. Thanks in advance.

    Parks,

If you have a place near the back of the boat (in the bilge sump) that is single thickness fiberglass (no double hull, foam core, etc.), you should be able to shoot thru the hull. Let enough water in the boat to cover the xducer. If the bilge pump keeps the bilge too dry to submerge the xducer, build a transducer well out of 4 or 5" PVC pipe, cut to the deadrise angle of your hull, and silicone it on. Shim or block the transducer to sit level and fill it with water. On one of my boats, this setup gives me better resolution at all speeds than transom mounting.

    Tommy
