SUBJECT: # 36727: motors for 25 mako

Submitted by stan from TEXAS on 1/16/02 4:57:00 PM

I amlooking at putting twin Honda 130's on a 25 Mako CC. Has any one done this, and with what results?

I ran a 25 mako that had twin 130s and I wasnt impressed. The mako is a big heavy hull and needs the V6 power on the back. It was a dog out the hole with 5 people in it and we didnt have that many fish. I really don't think you would be happy with the performance. The boat is probably rated for 370 or 400 hp and you would only have 260 hp.

I'll second what Speck-Tacular said. I was on a 25 Mako with Honda 130's and his description is good. Suzuki is out now with 140hp four-strokes that would be a little better - and they're a LOT lighter than the Honda 130's.

I've run hondas for years and will argue to the deepest shade of blue that they are the most rugged and reliable piece of equipment out there. I do feel that hondas do not pack quite the punch as other motors of the same labeled HP. Too heavy with not enough kick for your rig.

I'd really look at the Suzuki 140's. A little more power with less weight.

A buddy of mine has a 25 Mako with twin 150 opti's, he is very impressed with the MPG but not so impressed with the speed.

Take a serious look into the 200hp yamaha they might be heavy but they pack some punch. And they are as reliable as a honda in the saltwater.

friend had one with twin 175's and they were just fine, then he re-powered with 200 mercs. ran great. the old hulls are heavy and very seaworthy, but 130's is too little hp.
