SUBJECT: # 37238: Port O'Connor Tips

Submitted by Midnightmagic (66.141.169.68) from TEXAS on 4/2/02 8:16:00 PM

I'd like to get started on the right foot and so - humblely ask: If you and a few friends were leaving from POC to fish offshore for basically the first time, what would you be sure to have onboard to put lots of fish in the boat?

Like live bait, I have never used a Sabaki rig - is that what you use to fill the livewell with tasty morsels? If so please tell me where in the POC area to go. Then, trolling for dolphin, how close to the weed line, how fast, what bait? Have a rig hook, any advise?

Thanks in advance for any advise offered...!

Midnightmagic - you may want to post your questions on the Texas SWF board; you will see more attention there.

Excellent choice! POC is one of my favorite. There are many rigs offshore to choose from (get a Top Spot map from your favorite tackle shop) and head SE. There is a triple rig located about 9 miles SE of POC that can yield some fish for you. For bait, just buy some bait fish from your local bait house (Froggy's, Tweety's etc)or use frozen (readily available. I won't mess with a Sabiki rig.

Although, if you are planning on fishing soon, it may be a little early to head offshore (seas are tall). There is copious fishing all around the bays and the two sets of jetty's. Good luck!
