SUBJECT: # 37581: Gulf Shores - Big Lagoon

Submitted by JBRiverRat (64.211.171.22) from GEORGIA on 6/14/02 2:21:00 PM

What kind of fish are in Big Lagoon and how do you fish for them? That small manmade inlet doesn't seem big enough to let many fish in or out from the Gulf. Are there fish in enough quantities to make it worth fishing for? Will be limited to pier fishing. Pier #r, Carl, Bueller, Bueller?

Thanks

Big Lagoon is in Pensacola, Little Lagoon is in Gulf Shores!

I have never fished Little Lagoon, but have talked to some folks who fish it quite a bit. At times, the specs, flounder & redfish fishing in there can be very good. If you are shore bound, try wading the shoreline (you can access the lagoon at the bridge). For flounder, try fishing small minnows on bottom, carolina rig style, just with a shorter (12") leader. May also want to try fishing in the early morning with topwater baits (zara spook) or live shrimp under a popping cork for specs.

The inlet is plenty big enough to allow for fish to migrate in & out. At the right time of year, you can see huge schools of mullet going in & out of the pass. I have also heard that on a falling tide, the beach side of the inlet can be really good for specs & reds.
