SUBJECT: # 37690: 2000 Johnson FICHT 200 HP

Submitted by Phil Lindale (12.92.200.91) from SOUTH CAROLINA on 7/8/02 7:36:00 PM

Looking at a great deal on a Ranger Flats Boat. This is a factory repo from a dealer and boat and motor come with full factory warrantee as if new. I have been told the FICHT problems were with the 1998 and 1999 models. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge or expierience with this model year?

What I understand from my Evinrude mechanic is the 99 model year had some injection problems that was repaired free of charge with a "kit" of some kind. He told me that he has not had any of the kits come back. He has a 2000 200hp w/no problems, so I just bought a 24' boat w/a 2002 200 ficht and that motor runs like a dream. Gets great fuel economy also. Hope that helps. Mike

Year 2,000, the Johnson is a carbed engine, & the Evinrude is direct injection, known as FICHT. I own a 2,000 - 200 hp FICHT........Evinrude. You will not find a better engine. The problems were in the 97 & 98 - 150 hp & 175 hp. Those engines are 60 degree engines & the 200s & up are 90 degree engines, totally different engines. I would buy another in a heartbeat. If you can keep her at 3,500 or less, you will see 5+ mpg. At troll 2.5 kts, she will use 1/3 of a gallon per hour. Sal

Your right, I noticed my error after I posted my message. Good catch.
