We are coming up to Conneticut august 8 to look at a new polarized eyeglass lens technology. The owner is going to take us striper fishing in the sound. How is it? The guy that I do a radio show with on saturday mornings in St. Louis, is Ray Eye, the new host of Cabella's Sportsman's quest- grew up in the Ozarks and is a turkey snd deer killing machine. I grew up in St. Louis and know sports glasses and stream and lake fishin and howe to knock down birds. However Neither of us know anything about stripers in the ocean- what are we in for? One of my customers, told me that is the best place in the country when they are running. 15-40 lb ers. Is this true?

Fishing can be good but usually at night and on bait from a boat. The inshore water is just too warm for big fish during the day. Not impossible but not typical. If you do day fish target the mornings and evenings.
Depends on where in CT you're going. The further East you are the better it can be in the summer.

Exact location is Fort Totten, Bayside. (not hard to find in the map) =)

Capt Judd from CONNECTICUT says Stripers
We have caught 2 stripers between boats from the dock in the marina. The secret was to have one guy clean fish & throw the gurry overboard. Not at night, but in the middle of the day in about 8 feet of water. We used some of the guts for bait too. Strange but true. The one yesterday (7/8/20) was 28 " & a real thick fish. Makes me wonder why I have a boat, a slip, etc etc. Capt Judd

Striper fishing in the sound is great. Stripers are the trophy fish of choice in new england, and the sound is one of the best places to get them. It sounds like the guy you are going with has experience, so he will know where to go. There are many reefs in the sound, and the stripers like to stand where they can lay low behind structure near where the bait fish come to them with current. (some call them lazy)- was out last week on a charter boat, caught fish from 31-47 inches. wore us out. go to www.connecticutsurfcasters.com click on fishing reports at bottom, great info from longtimers. have fun, post report on that site afterward.

Tony R (64.12.96.233) from CONNECTICUT says Stripers in Aug.
You will have a very good chance of landing some decent stripers in Aug. They are already showing up in decent numbers and will only increase in size and appetite through Nov. Night is the way to go. I fish the sound regularly and dusk to dawn will out produce 10 to 1. Good luck.
