Interested in doing some night fishing from by boat (18')but need some advice on this subject. When I set out my lights do they need to be near structure like wells or pilings or can I just anchor off in a reef. Also what would be a good generator that is not too big or noisey and what type lights do I need. I've seen people with lights that put out a wide angle and others that have a more concentrated beam of light, which is best. Forgot to mention the intended species of prey is speckled trout. Thanks in advance for the advice.

May not apply in your situation-I have a 19' bayboat which
I have rigged with two light racks made of 1 1/2"pvc mounted with pivoted lights- 4 on the stern and two on the bow-I have them wired independently and operate them in
different sequences. These racks can be removed by slipping a pin out of the mounted floor caps-I carry 4 batteries aboard- 1 only for the motor-1 for trolling motor and emergency backup-and
2 for the lights- I have dragged a shrimp trawl all night
with no problem-and fished with 4 lights for over 5 hours with no problem-- Fishing out of the Port Sulfur in bays
and inland cuts and passes you can be very sucessful-I usually fish over an oyster reef using plastics on a
tandem rig.--Get to your favorite place--kick on the lights
--wait 15-20minutes aiming the main beam of lights about 15'
from the boat-Bait fish and shrimp WILL begin to appear and you Will see trout dash across the lights tearing the bait
fish up--The trout lay just out side the main concentration of lights and you will not know they are there until you
get the "rush" of the strike--The nice thing about night fishing is you miss all the "crowds" and above all the heat-
Be careful though--I'd only go into places that you are
EXTREMELY familiar-Alot of accidents can occur "running"
at night---Good Luck!!!

Dan (205.188.208.5) from ALABAMA says Use your motor as a generator
Here is a helpful hint. Use an Onboard Stealth Charger. It uses the motor as it's source of energy and chargers your batteries better than any other on board charger. 15 minutes of running your motor is equal to one hour of AC charging. There website is Stealthcharging.com or you can use their toll free tech number 1-888-588-4506.
