SUBJECT: # 38913: Oregon Inlet, NC when the outgoing tide meets the incoming tide -- be careful!

Submitted by Gerry, SFHP from VIRGINIA on 12/14/03 11:16:00 AM

My brother and I did some successful striper fishing down at Oregon Inlet this past week, but I want to comment on the condition of the inlet -- at low water and between tides (particularly when an incoming ocean tide is meeting an outgoing sound tide) it can be treacherous. The wave action in the shallow channel is very unpredictable.

Striper action has been good to excellent south of the inlet in about 60 - 70 ft of water. A variety of baits are producing 15 to 20 lb fish.

Had a blitz at the point proper Fri and Sat nights dead low tide. No eels on bunker steaks, AM feed bunker heads. Figures I have steaks in the AM and heads in the PM. Nothing on the point on metal but a few at HI inlet on the metal, trout in holes around Frisco pier. yc.
