Has anyone bought one of these Garmin gps units (ique 3600)? I am curious if it is worth getting. I found a unit for $470 at rivermarinesupply.com (they usually have the lowest prices) and wondered if it is worth getting my father for X-mas.

I'm not familiar with the 3600 but I purchased the 176c last summer for not much more than that, $650 I think and I am very pleased with it's capabilities and accuracy. They also make the 176 without the c(standing for color) for $100 less, getting it closer to the $470 you mentioned but if you are willing to spend a little more I strongly recommend this unit. The 176C is portable in that it will run on 4 double A's, though it sucks down the juice, but wiring is made simple on all garmin products. The unit accepts all bluewater charts throughout the world sold as chips(expensive but nice) or you can purchase a blank and download the bluewater charts off of the internet and load them directly to the 176. Whatever gps unit you choose make sure it is WAAS enabled for accuracy purposes. Hope this info. is informative for you and good luck.

I have used a Garmin 2006C for two years. I am very pleased with the unit.
The unit does so much I am still learning how to use it.
