When tautog fishing should i use abrasion resistant line such as spiderwire or regular line like trilene. Also when tautog fishing should i use 2 hooks, 1 above the other, or 1 hook. THANK YOU

Dunk79 (68.44.136.197) from NEW JERSEY says Slippery Bass..
See I disagree with what Peter said below about the leader length. 10ft? You'll never feel the tog. Once they get on a wreck they are worse than grouper and won't move more than 5ft. The fish live on eating barnacles off wrecks. Yes, a crab floating down will get his attention, but they don't eat the crab and make a 100ft run.
Once you do some tog fishing think about this. The best way to catch tog is to hook them right before they bite... There's really noway to explain how to hook them.
I make my rigs like regular top and bottom rig right off the 50lb mono I have on my tog stick. The dropper loops to the hooks are only about 6" long and just far enough apart so the hooks will hook together. Both hooks are buried in the same green crab. I use Mustad 9174 in either #1 or 1/0 size. This way you've got nice neat close together rig to drop down on the wreck. Of course the first thing you tie is a loop on the end of the line to hang a bank sinker.
In all fairness I should say I have my own little wreck right in front of the inlet here that I've gotten tog as big as 15lbs. It's only in 25-30ft of water, so 50lb mono works great. If you are talking deep water then yes go with Power Pro or whatever non stretch line because the whole point or the rig above it to be able to feel the fish bite and hook him quick.. I would tie a 10-15ft piece of working 50lb mono to it then you can make rigs like I mentioned above in that mono.

Peter from NEW YORK says Dunk, maybe I didn't explain myself well
I tie a 10' piece of 50lb mono directly to my braided line, then I loop 2' of the mono and slide my sinker thru that and pass my snelled hook thru the doubled line about 3" above the sinker.
I use the mono because it is much more abrasive resistent than braided.
