This is the citation drum I caught on 4/18. We measured him at 45".

What ramp were you fishing from? Ramp 34 area and the point seem to be good for those big Drums.

Gerry, BFHP from VIRGINIA says It was the Point.
The water north of the Point was still pretty cold (54 in Salvo) so I headed south. From what I heard fishing was better the further south you went.
On the night I caught that one there were about 6 fish caught at the Point. Down by Hatteras Inlet I heard they caught over 20. Ocracoke had even better reports. I go down there every year in November for about week to chase migrating rockfish. The Big Drum are around sometimes in November depending on the weather.

5-20 from VIRGINIA says Oh man... I'm going down there next week...
I'll be in the area of hatteras/ocracoke next weekend, during the 7th thru the 10th. You think there'll still be a few of those fish swimming around in the surf? If not, what do you think I'll be able to count on catching then?
If anyone has a decent rod/reel combo for surf fishing you'd like to part with - lemme know. Doesn't matter if it's a casting or spinning model...

That look like more fun than bass. Thank God for saltwater. That fish is awesome. Wish I had a fish like that. The Lollipopman

I had to bet on what species of fish that you could catch there in early May that would be impressive in size I would have to say Bluefish. They tend to run in XXL size through there in May. Ocracoke will see em first.
