SUBJECT: # 39150: Banded Rudder, Mangs, Lanes, Yellowtail & Shark: SW FL Fishbuster Dave

Submitted by Fishbuster Dave from FLORIDA on 5/22/04 12:28:00 PM

I fished Wednesday with the Dick Leonard party, around several ledges and about 29 miles off Naples in 70 feet. Conditions were much improved over our recent high winds and seas, but still a bit sloppy out there. We used live shrimp, and had a great time catching several banded ruder fish (similar to amberjack). We also caught keeper mangrove snapper, yellowtail snapper, and lane snapper, triggerfish, porkfish, and porgies, until a goliath grouper showed up to eat everything we tried to reel in.

Friday, I fished with John Commers off Ft. Myers Beach. We saw tarpon, but did not hook up on any. We did, however, have a lot of fun catching and releasing two sharpnose sharks, each about 3 feet long, and one 150 pound (plus) nurseshark that was between 7 and 8 foot long.

Fishing off Ft. Myers beach Saturday morning with Bill & Terry Major and son, Bill, we caught and released lemon shark to 4 feet, using thread herrings. We were hoping for tarpon, but with about 40 boats out there, we only saw one hook-up all morning.
