SUBJECT: Redfish $ Snook Bayside; Grouper, Mackerel, Lanes & Shark Gulfside: SW FL

Submitted by Captain Dave Hanson (68.85.71.42) from FLORIDA on

I fished Estero BayThursday, on the west wall by Spring Creek, with Jim Cullen and daughter, Lauren. We released seven snook to 21 inches, and a couple of redfish, and caught one keeper redfish at 20 ½ inches. We also caught three keeper sheepshead to 16 ½ inches, keeper mangrove snapper and sand bream, on live shrimp.

Friday, I fished 28 miles west of New Pass in 57-70 feet, with Rudy Zikesch, John Pennza, Phil Young, and James Perry. We caught two keeper red grouper, a big Spanish mackerel, thirty-one lane snapper, a nice trigerfish and a large porgie. We released lots of grouper and mangrove snapper shorts. The red grouper bit grunt heads, the lane snapper preferred cut bait and sardines, and the Spanish was caught on a live shrimp. We also released a 3 foot lemon shark.
