Submitted by Grant (134.129.149.167) from MINNESOTA on 12/11/04 3:55:00 PM

Is it a requirment to have a fishing license when fishing from shore? i've read a lot of conflicting reports on this. Thanks

Yes, They would like you to have a license while fishing in Mexico. I emphasize "like you to". It depends on where you go too. Some of the hotels on the beach are not bothered by a guest fishing on their property without a license. Some of the locals do get upset when gringos avoid paying for a license, however. In most areas, there is no place to buy a license even if you try.

The debate goes on. Some fishing camps include the fee for a license, some don't. I'm sure the place where you are staying will have information. Don't expect to go to your local Mexican Wal Mart and buy a license.

If you go to a fishing hotel/resort and fish with thier fleet the license is "included" in the price. Whether an actual license is issued or you're just paying a fee to the pocket of a manager I can't say.
