Wondering if anyone has first hand info on the Dusky boat brand. I was hoping some of you guys down in FL might be able to give me some data. Any info good or bad would be appreciated. Interested in the 25 0r 33 ft models. Thanks in advance. Capt. Alex

Capt......I grew up in South Florida and bought a Dusky 233 from the Browns (Dusky) in 1984 and sold it in 1993. For the money you can't beat Dusky boats. They are tough no frills boats. The one thing about most of their models is that they only have 20 degree deadrise so if you are running long distances in choppy water on a regular basis you might want to consider a boat that has 25 degrees of deadrise. A nice feature of the Duskys is that they are all custom built. The prices start with basic features and you can add the options you want instead of what they think you will want. I won almost as much as I paid for that boat fishing it in Kingfish tournaments.

But.....20 degrees deadrise is usually better while fishing than a rolly 25 degree deadrise hull. The 20 will be a more stable platform especially when drifting or slow trolling than a super deep-v. Do you typically spend more time running or fishing? There's a trade-off either way you go.

I owned a Diesel powered Dusky for lots of years. I sold it when I semi-retired. When I sold it, it was always clean and neat. I can't say that now. It is mighty dirty.

I traveled to Dania from Birmingham, Al. back in 2000 just so I could get exactly the boat I wanted at the best price. I got the 233FC with twin 130hp. Oceanpros. I campaigned the boat in the SKA class of 23 and it was outstanding. With the max fuel ,twin engines and 50gal. livewell ,I felt confident in that boat all along the northern gulf fishing out to 100mi. in good weather. The only complaint I had with mine was the scuppers that drained the cockpit traveled from the inside transom through pipes to the outside where they used scupper balls to block backwashing. If you lost a rag or as in my case a fat cigar minnow and it went in the scupper hole the innerliner would not drain. It happened to me during a tournament in the rain. Between running hard in a 3' sea, a sloshing livewell and the rain we were almost swamped before we were able to correct the problem. After that I installed screens over the interior holes to allow only water to enter and never had another problem. I loved my Dusky ! It was a Great boat for family outings and serious fishing

Thanks to all that responded to my question. Sorry it took so long to get back, work sent me away for wee bit!! Thanks again. Now I'm leaning toward the 33 footer w/ a stepped hull.

I have twin suzuki 140's on a 1978 Dusky boat which has 3 big dials which are for starting the motor and one key switch, What setting should I set these 3 dials so I can start the right motor or the left motor and it only has one switch? I appreciate any responses. Thanks Tom Payne
